Kids and Dogs safety
It is our job as a parent to teach our children to respect our dog and to consider its feelings and well being. Too often I have seen parents overlook this and it can result in a pet being abused or sadly, a pet striking back and hurting the kid, which most of the times I question if it is the dog’s fault. Manners go both ways, we teach our dogs to respect our kids but we also should teach our kids to respect the family pet.
It’s my opinion that every school should offer pet parenting classes, teaching our kids to behave well in a home with animals and to treat their pets with loving care and respect. This is a great foundation for their future.
According to the American Veterinary Medical Association there are some 70 million pet dogs in the United States. There is concern that certain breeds among those dogs are not safe for children and should be banned because they are dangerous. It is my opinion, however, that the danger is in not teaching our children how to be safe around our own pets.
